Peter Fabian Wins Prestigious 2023 Chi-Bin Chien Award for Contributions to Zebrafish Community

Peter Fabian, a researcher at the Faculty of Science at Masaryk University, has been awarded the prestigious 2023 Chi-Bin Chien Award by the International Zebrafish Society (IZFS). This international award, recognizes Dr. Fabian's outstanding scientific work in the field of zebrafish research. Dr. Fabian, who joined the Department of Experimental Biology as a new research group leader last year, is a developmental biologist with a focus on understanding the fundamental processes that underlie the development and maintenance of vertebrate organs, particularly their importance for human health. His research aims to understand the role of stem cell maintenance and metabolism in human health, as well as to study the basic mechanisms of how different cell types arise and contribute to the formation of complex organs in vertebrate bodies.

Jana Klánová received an honorary doctorate from the University of Örebro

Professor Jana Klánová, Director of the RECETOX Centre at the Faculty of Science of Masaryk University, was awarded an honorary doctorate (doctor honoris causa) at Örebro University in Sweden. On this occasion, she presented her research at a public lecture and discussed collaboration with several research teams.

Pavel Hyršl has received the MUNI Innovation Award 2023

The research of Pavel Hyršl has made a positive contribution in the fields of beekeeping, ecological relationships and agriculture. The results have provided an overview of the changes in parasitised bee bodies that result in impaired health and the death of bee colonies. Congratulations on the award.

BRNO SPACE - STUDENT CONFERENCE 2023

Human endeavours in the field of space research and its wider application is a dynamically developing field. This is evident not only in the research and development of technologies but especially in the ever-increasing use of satellite data and space technologies in all areas of everyday life. We believe that issues related to space research, including the development and processing of satellite data, rightfully belong in the study and research programs of our universities. On 27 April 2023, the three largest universities in Brno will be organising a student conference on this subject in Building C at the Faculty of Agriculture, Mendel University in Brno. New premises will be needed for further development of the faculty

Space constraints are one of the key factors preventing further development at many departments of the Faculty of Science of MU. This is based on the recommendations of the international qualitative evaluation of research and doctoral studies, which the faculty underwent and which the Vice-Dean for Research, Development and Quality Jaromír Leichmann was in charge of. The following interview provides information on what other recommendations came out of the evaluation, how they will be dealt with and what tasks await the Vice-Dean for Development after the evaluation is over.
